Some projects are finished quickly, with the flow moving in one steady stream. When it's finished, the project is simply complete. Satisfying and clear. Other projects take time, and thought and the right moment. The latter is what happened with this giant dream catcher, that I've nick-named "Giant Dreamy" because writing giant dream catcher every time is too long. And this kind of project often takes on a life of its own... Watch the video here or keep reading... This creation was started as a hula-hoop making experiment - which failed for the better. I couldn't get the pipe to stay in a perfect circle, and so it sat for a while, oval and sad. Amazing what comes from our mistakes, our trials and errors. I would see it behind the desk, and I'd think about it... wondering what I was going to do with this "useless" piece of pipe. Then, one day, more than a year later, I got the idea to make it a giant dream catcher! I first needed to solve the problem of it being black PVC pipe, so I covered it in different colors of up-cycled leather. Then I wove the inner web. First with (you know it) Darn Good Yarn Recycled Silk Sari Ribbon.(P.S. May I just briefly interject this story to suggest that you use the links at the bottom of this page to browse their site and a % of the purchase comes back to me! Sharin' the love.) Then the giant dreamy sat again for a while. This time, it was a matter of confidence, and persistence and patience on my part. I wasn't sure what to do next. It sat for more time than I know exactly. This often happens. Artist of any kind I'm sure you can relate. There are some projects that just fizzle out, some that stay out, and some that reignite their fire once the time is ready... The time that passed between the first hula hoop attempt and the most recent adding of fringe, vintage belt buckles, and feathers was 100% necessary and right. It was the perfect timing for me, and for this piece, as it wasn't meant to be finished until now. It's as if it knew it's trajectory long before me. This concept of ideas and inspiration taking on a life of their own is beautifully described in Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. I recommend it. Speaks directly to this I hope you enjoy this look at my Giant Dreamy, and it's 100% appropriate to at first laugh at the epicness of the music, then you realize how it fits so well. It just works! The music was somewhat an accident, I dropped in in the player editor somewhat as a joke, but I couldn't deny that it fit perfectly as I watched it line up with the cuts I had already made. So, even in the end editing phase, this thing knew what it wanted. Stay Inspired, Stay Radiant, -Erin
